Gemstone Engagement Rings

Updated on December 13, 2012

Gemstone engagement rings come in a wide range of varieties, colors, designs and prices so they have a wide appeal. These types of engagement rings are designed to center your attention on a beautiful gemstone which is usually front and center.

There are a number of different types of gemstones in existence, so if you're looking for a particular color or cut in your gemstone, you'll likely find it if you look long enough. Pretty much every color of the rainbow can be found for a gemstone engagement ring.

Gemstone Engagement Rings- The Process

The process of making a gemstone engagement ring is actually quite simple. A gemstone is first taken and smoothed out through a basic process of spinning in a chamber over a long period of time. Usually a small amount of chemically-fused powder is added to help smooth the gems.

After the gems are smoothed, they are prepared and cut according to the ring manufacturer's desire. Once that's done, the smooth gems are then put into the ring an voila- the gemstone engagement ring is created!

Meaning of Gemstones used in Engagement Rings

A big part of what makes gemstones so unique is the meaning behind each precious stone. If you wanted an engagement ring that symbolizes innocence and constancy, you'd be interested in a diamond engagement ring. Or if you wanted to get an engagement ring that represents a solid, unwavering friendship you could get a garnet gemstone engagement ring.

Yet another example of unique gemstone engagement rings might be emerald engagement rings. The emerald gemstone represents faith and hope.

Regardless of the gemstone in an engagement ring, they each have a rich story behind them. Show your girlfriend how much you care about her by researching the meaning behind the ring and sharing it with her after you propose!

Alternate Meaning of Gemstones

There is one other alternate meaning of gemstones...one more reason why some people purchase gemstones in their rings and other jewelry. I hesitate to mention it because it's speculative, but it's worth mentioning because of an increase in interest in this area.

Some speculate that gemstones have mystical powers. I haven't read anything definitive online that shows scientific studies in this area, but that doesn't seem to stop some from believing gemstones have inert power and that their possessor obtains this strength simply by owning and wearing gemstones.

Think what you may, it's worth a mention!

Non-Gemstone Engagement Rings

If you're looking for a different type of engagement ring or if gemstone rings simply don't appeal to you, consider your alternatives:
