Three Stone Engagement Rings

Updated on January 15, 2010

Another type of engagement ring that is growing in popularity is three stone engagement rings. The commonly held belief is that this ring is more expensive than solitaire engagement rings because it has three stones (usually diamonds) instead of one.

In this article I'll explain a little about three stone engagement rings and show that they can be more affordable than you might think. Disclaimer: I'm slightly biased since I bought my wife a three-stone diamond engagement ring.

Three Stone Rings- Styles, Types, Settings and Options

A big part of what makes three stone engagement rings more affordable than you might think is the vast number of options you have to customize them.

Here's an extensive, although not exhaustive list of different factors that will affect the price of your three stone ring:

  • Types of stones used (gemstones? diamonds?)
  • Selection of metal (white/yellow gold? platinum?)
  • More than three stones (Many "three stone engagement rings" have more than three stones!)
  • Stone layout is unusually unique (Price often goes up when this is the case)
  • Size of the stones
  • Quality of the stones

All of these factors will impact the final price of your engagement ring.

Standard three stone engagement rings use diamonds. The middle diamond is typically larger than the other two diamonds, since it is the one that is supposed to be the focal point of the ring.

Meaning Behind and Significance of Three Stone Rings

The number three is seen to have much significance within engagement rings. From the religious angle, the number three signifies the Trinity- God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. From another angle, three can represent the past, present and future.

Using these or other meanings behind the number three can be a romantic touch that you could share with your girlfriend. For example, you could tell her you got this ring because it represents your love for her- past, present and (most importantly) future.

Another ring that utilizes the rich meaning behind the use of "three" is Celtic engagement rings.

Engagement Rings on Amazon

Amazon actually has an extensive selection of three stone engagement rings. With almost all of their rings, they offer a free one-size adjustment to make sure it fits that ring finger perfectly. Also, most of the rings come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the quality of stones and metals used.
