Three Stone Engagement Rings
Another type of engagement ring that is growing in popularity is three stone engagement rings. The commonly held belief is that this ring is more expensive than solitaire engagement rings because it has three stones (usually diamonds) instead of one.
In this article I'll explain a little about three stone engagement rings and show that they can be more affordable than you might think. Disclaimer: I'm slightly biased since I bought my wife a three-stone diamond engagement ring.
Three Stone Rings- Styles, Types, Settings and Options
A big part of what makes three stone engagement rings more affordable than you might think is the vast number of options you have to customize them.
Here's an extensive, although not exhaustive list of different factors that will effect the price of your three stone ring:
- Types of stones used (gemstones? diamonds?)
- Selection of metal (white/yellow gold? platinum?)
- More than three stones (Many "three stone engagement rings" have more than three stones!)
- Stone layout is unusually unique (Price often goes up when this is the case)
- Size of the stones
- Quality of the stones
All of these factors will impact the final price of your engagement ring.
Standard three stone engagement rings use diamonds. The middle diamond is typically larger than the other two diamonds, since it is the one that is supposed to be the focal point of the ring.
Meaning Behind and Significance of Three Stone Rings
The number three is seen to have much significance within engagement rings. From the religious angle, the number three signifies the Trinity- God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. From another angle, three can represent the past, present and future.
Using these or other meanings behind the number three can be a romantic touch that you could share with your girlfriend. For example, you could tell her you got this ring because it represents your love for her- past, present and (most importantly) future.
Another ring that utilizes the rich meaning behind the use of "three" is Celtic engagement rings.
If you find that you don't like this type of engagement ring or you feel like it doesn't match your girlfriend's personality or taste, there are a number of other popular engagement rings, including:
Engagement Rings on Amazon
Amazon actually has an extensive selection of three stone engagement rings. With almost all of their rings, they offer a free one-size adjustment to make sure it fits that ring finger perfectly. Also, most of the rings come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the quality of stones and metals used.

Your taste has gotten more expensive over the years, Whitney :)
I bought a three stone ring for our engagement, although it didn't have the small diamonds encrusted around the band (that would have really driven the price up).
This is what I purchased for my wife. She has such small fingers, and I was able to get a decent total weight in carats without it overtaking her teeny fingers. I wish I had known about the meaning...oh well, I can still whip that one out on a rainy day. :-)
Good Hub!
Jeffrey, maybe you can save it for an anniversary?
It's so interesting to me the power that three has over our human imagination - the Rule of Three when you are telling a story is just one example - here's another - fascinating.

These have always been my favorite. I didn't realize there was any meaning behind them. I've just always liked them the best. As I've gotten a little older, they are still my favorites. I just like them a little different now; I prefer those with the main three and then the teeny ones on the band.
